Cyclone Rep announces its newest Shakespeare Session, Othello: The Green-Eyed Monster: an adaptation of The Tragedy of Othello, The Moor of Venice, featuring Marcus Bale in a pulse-pounding one-man show that places the theme of jealousy at its heart.
What drives an honourable, reasonable and loving man to become an unreasoning, destructive beast who kills the woman he most dearly loves? Jealousy is the corrosive emotion that pushes the noble Moor over the edge to commit a crime of violence he could never have imagined in his darkest dreams. But he’s not the only one consumed by the green-eyed monster: Iago’s jealousy and simmering hatred of the Moor drive him to dismantle Othello's life through calculated manipulation and ruthless betrayal.
Through performance, discussion, and audience interaction, Marcus Bale will unpack the plot, key themes, and characters of Othello, The Moor of Venice, while bringing Shakespeare’s classic tragedy vividly to life.
